A thought about Covid + Weddings

Weddings are hard enough as it is without having a worldwide pandemic standing in your way. I'm not an expert, and I'm not a wedding planner, but I do have some experience. I worked at wedding venues for many years in multiple capacities, and my sister and I (being huge DIYers and quick on our feet) have helped many couples on their special day with all of those last minute things that sometimes might be overlooked. There's nothing like seeing firsthand the joy on couples faces as they make a commitment to walk through life together. All the planning coming together perfectly on one day forever engrained in their hearts. And I simply can't imagine having that taken away from you.

Even on a banner year, weddings will always have their fair share of speed bumps. Mine was no exception, without jeopardizing all of your time, I'll stick to three--three of our biggest speed bumps were something out of a Hallmark movie. Our cook was hit by a bus walking home from church, two weeks before our wedding (for real), she took it as a sign to retire--so we needed a new cook. Our scheduled photographer suddenly needed hip surgery about a month before the big day, and our wedding cake literally lost an entire tier-- it simply collapsed and fell off the table just before the reception started... And the list goes on (seriously, ask us sometime). If these things can teach us anything, it's firstly knowing in your heart that you've chosen the right partner in life, and secondly that Murphy's law always applies when it comes to weddings (anything that can go wrong, will go wrong). All things taken into consideration, Jesse and I had a blast the year of our wedding, (yes the YEAR-- if you're engaged/married you know I speak truths here) and with literally everything that took place (above events included) they all made for hilarious antidotes--and I know most people would say, "well not at the time, right?" Not true! We've always taken things exactly as they are, and our wedding was no different (even the cook is ok btw) It's that knowing you have the right partner bit, that's the key.

The main purpose of today's rant however, is not my wedding experience. As you may have seen in my Instagram, the lovely Jennie contacted me with the idea to create this beautiful set as a wedding memory for her daughter in law to be, who was unable to have her big beautiful wedding this July due to Covid-19 restrictions. They are however about to declare their love for one another this July with a small commitment ceremony!

If you ask me, this is what it's all about. Whether you're married, engaged, or waiting for the one. Would you do it without all the flash and glam?

The truth is, covid or not--no size or kind of wedding will ever be larger than your love for one another. So enjoy all these beautiful moments we suddenly have time to make together at home. I can only imagine that some of our best memories may come from these days.

Heaven forbid you've had to postpone your wedding this year, my heart goes out to you ♥️ I hope you can find beauty in these small moments together with your loved one. And if you're looking for a little momento of another kind of memory lost, let me know, maybe I can help you create something beautiful to capture some of the joy you had hoped to experience on that special day ❤️.

An Irish blessing for the Wedding Couple:

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

May the rain fall soft upon your fields,

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
